I read that Colorado's unemployment rate in August dipped to 6.7% as our economy is recovering faster than expected and that our state revenues thru the end of June were $900 million higher than last estimated 3 months ago. This is very good news! The Denver metro area unemployment rate is 7% as Denver County currently has the 5th highest unemployment rate in the state due to the huge job losses in tourism, entertainment, and restaurants.
So far, private sector employers have recovered 59% of the job losses experienced in March and April. Nationally, this percentage is just 49%. CO employers added nearly 37k new jobs in August. So far, private sector employers have added back 178k jobs after shedding 342k jobs this spring.
